Morning Morgantown by Joni Mitchell
Tabbed: January 1996
| Though I had this song figured out in FFCFAC
tuning (capo to 2nd fret), thanks to my friend from England, Chris Erswell for showing me that, yes, GGDGBD IS
open G tuning and, guess what? It's only one step higher than FFCFAC (who would've thunk!)
I had it in my brain that these were 2 totally different keys, and Chris very gently
convinced me to take a better look at the logic (plus he hates playing high up on the
neck.) All joking aside, thanks, Chris, for your friendship and our (hopefully)
continually ongoing "successive approximations." This song is pretty easy to play; there are really only 3 basic chord shapes that you have to concern yourself with. Standard travis picking is all you'll need. |

When morning comes to Morgantown, the merchants roll their awnings down

And milktrucks make their morning rounds, in morning Morgantown
We'll rise up early with the sun, to ride the bus while everyone
Is yawning and the day is young in morning Morgantown

Morning any town you name, morning's just the same
We'll find a table in the shade and sip our tea and
lemonade
And watch the morning on parade in morning Morgantown
Ladies in their rainbow fashions, colored stop and go lights flashin'
We'll wink at total strangers passin' in morning Morgantown
Morning Morgantown, buy your dreams a dollar down
Morning any town you name, morning's just the same
I'd like to buy you everything, a wooden bird with painted wing
A window full of colored rings in morning Morgantown
But the only thing I have to give, to make you smile, to win you with
Are all the mornings still to live in morning Morgantown.
Morning Morgantown, buy your dreams a dollar down
Morning any town you name, morning's just the same
